Review of the 1999 Season 

 The 1999 Season proved as wet as 1998, but despite this, some excellent cricket was played and Rushall, as prophesized, duly won the First Division at the first attempt. Hopwas threatened to give them a run for their money, but vertigo seemed to upset them as they eventually settled for second place. Only 16 points separated 2nd to 6th place. Whittington and Lichfield Friary both had poor seasons and dropped to the second division.

 The Second Division was a closely fought contest between Longdon, Rugeley and Cannock & Rugeley. The lead changed hands several times but Longdon kept their heads and won their last four games. The other two lost one game each at the end. Rugeley won the other promotion spot by 1 point. Lichfield 2nds and Centre Set make the drop to the Third Division. 

  The non participation of the Gate, plus the weather made life more difficult in Division Three. Cannock & Rugeley 2nds led up to the final three games but lost then the final two rounds to the weather.

Their rivals, Hammerwich 2nds and Rugeley 2nds both won in the last round so C&R 2nds settled for third. Division Three will be up to strength in 2000 with the inclusion of Walton on Trent.   

The final of the Sunday League Cup was held at Cannock & Rugeley CC. A splendid, closely fought game between Rugeley and Hopwas kept the spectators on the edge of their seats until the final over.
