Review of the 2000 Season Armitage, after narrowly escaping relegation last year, under their inspirational captain, JF Jennings (it seems to run in the family) easily won the Division One Title for a sixth time, leading throughout the campaign. The next three positions were only separated by six points. Respectively Rushall, Rugeley and Abbots Bromley. The surprise were the relegation teams, Hammerwich 1sts and Hopwas. Hopwas finished 2nd last year. Hopwas though, won the League Cup beating Cannock and Rugeley narrowly at Rugeley after being beaten finalists in 1999. Our thanks to Rugeley CC to hosting the final. The two relegated teams from the 1999 fought each other throughout the season in Division 2. The final positions were in doubt until the last round of games. Unfortunately for Whittington they lost one point in their win and Friary were perhaps fortunate to gain three points for a rain curtailed game. Cannock & Rugeley once again finished third in their final season. Our thanks to their contribution to the League. Rugeley 2nds and Hammerwich 2nds make the drop into Division 3. The Third Division was a two horse race with the two front runners Elford and Walton playing each other in the final game. Walton won the game and the top spot by a solitary point. Acton Trussell finished strongly winning their final last 5 games but could only finish third. Tamworth 2nds, Milford Hall 1sts and 2nds, Rushall 2nds, Essington & Great Wyrley 2nds and Whittington 2nds have all been accepted into the league in 2001 but Cannock & Rugeley 1sts and 2nds have resigned so a certain amount of reshuffling of the lower division has taken place, with a Division Four introduced. The Commitment we made to keep Division Four eight teams has meant Divisions 3 and 4 have reduced numbers so our aim is to bring them up to full strength as soon as possible. Alan Hayes
