Lichfield League Cup Final |
Boundary Beat Lichfield by 89 runs Boundary & Kokni Sports have won the Lichfield & District Sunday League Cup for the second year in succession, decively defeating Lichfield in the final, once again kindly staged by Hammerwich CC. Boundary won an important toss to bat on a hard, fast track, Chawla who plays his Saturday cricket for Hammerwich hitting a superb unbeaten 84 in familiar surroundings, an innings including 2 sixes & 9 boundaries which took just 56 minutes. Support came from Mehboob with 23 & Zubair 20. Jamie Sarginson with 1-19 from his 3 overs was the most successful Lichfield bowler, Stevens, skipper Stephens & Braddock each claiming 1 wicket albeit a little expensively. A final total of 171-5 was a fine effort & certainly requiring a good start in response. If last season's losing finalists had realistic hopes of revenge, they effectively disappeared within the space of the opening four overs. At 19-3 with three top batsmen back in the pavillion, Lichfield were forced to fight a rearguard action, the early damage being down by the spin of Shokla & the speed, at times somewhat wayward of Banu. No Lichfield batsman reached 20 with the side being disappointingly bowled out for just 82 in the 13th over. Ahmed with 3, Shokla, Banu & Azhar each with 2 & Chawla with 1 shared the damage for Boundary, who bowled & fielded with considerable spirit to retain the title by 89 runs. Chawla was named man of the match by umpires Williams & Adams. Lichfield Cricket League |
